The power of the written word

Last weekend’s Sunday Mail newspaper in Brisbane featured a wonderful piece by regular columnist, Rebecca Sparrow, on Mission Australia’s work helping homeless people in that city.

With the onset of winter, Rebecca encouraged her readers to get behind Mission Australia – either by making a donation of money, of warm clothes and blankets or by volunteering at our Café One on Wickham service.

Café One provides low cost meals along with referral and advice to disadvantaged people in and around Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley.

Thanks to Rebecca’s article we’ve had a terrific response from her very generous readers.

Apart from a number of calls from people wanting to volunteer their time, we’ve also received a ute full of new blankets and jumpers which will be split between customers at Café One and residents at another Mission Australia Brisbane homeless service – Roma House – and a donation of $1000.

If you’re in Brisbane and you’d like to get behind Mission Australia’s work in any of our homeless services, please contact Kathie Kelly on (07) 3394 8140.

Please note that Mission Australia does not accept second hand goods for use by clients in its homeless services.
