Mission Australia’s Green Corps program will increase the chances for young people in the Murray Bridge area to become employed while assisting with environmental works at the Riverglades Wetlands.
Mission Australia’s Green Corps service manager Leanne Sandery said the Green Corps program – to be launched at 10.30 am on Wednesday, 10 September – will offer young people aged between 17 and 20 the opportunity to receive quality training while contributing to environmental and cultural heritage initiatives... Murray Bridge Mayor Alan Arbon will attend the launch, at the Riverglades Wetlands, The Causeway, Murray Drive (opposite house No. 95) at Murray Bridge.
“The project will assist young people in gaining skills and work experience, while assisting the community and the environment through works carried out in the Wetlands,” Ms Sandery said.
Green Corps projects provide participants with a quality experience in real learning and opportunities to contribute to community building within an environmental or heritage context. As a partner agency, Mission Australia is running the Green Corp project with the Riverglades Community Wetlands Incorporated.
Participants undertake a 26-week project, and are expected to attend fulltime before graduating with a nationally accredited training in horticulture and first aid.
Green Corps graduates have commenced careers as national parks rangers, vet nurses, landscape gardeners, mechanics, website designers, landcare coordinators, forestry workers and fire fighters.
